While there I was seeking to one of the consuls and he pointed out a painting by Lia Miharakis called Illhia Paqueta 1912, at the time he told me that Miharakis had made too similar paintings Illhia Paqueta, and Illhia Grande. The consul went on to tell me that Illhia Grande, had appeared on the cover of Time magazine a few years back, and that got me really interested in this work. This painting is one of those pieces that really move you; it definitely lightened the mood in the room that it was in. At first sight Illhia Paqueta seems very complex, with its different tones and shades of color, however it is a very simplistic vision of an ideal existence in south eastern Brasil. The painting is oil on canvas and it is medium sized at 31 x 23 ½, the size of this painting is perfect. Illhia Paqueta is an island in the south eastern coast of Brasil, to be more precise, it is off the coast of Rio de Janeiro.
