Iago the man

The most deceptive character in Shakespeare’s play Othello is “honest” Iago. Devious Iago’s talent in being able to manipulate: Othello, Desdemona, Cassio, and Roderigo exhibit his crafty character. He can control and hurt other characters for his own personal gain. Iago is literally the devil in the form of a person, as well as a liar and a clever fraud.
Iago is aligned with the devil. He states when his behavior corresponds to his real feelings of "hell and night" he will be what he is. In showing his association with the devil, Iago says "I am not what I am." (p. 5 64) Proving that he has sided with hell.
