i hate history

The dugong is a manatee like creature that inhabits coastal waters. It swims through the ocean, but its population has become reduces because of hunting, pollution, and fishing. It can be found in the Red sea,African and Indian Oceans, South China, Southeast Asia, and Australia. They are about eight feet long, and weigh up to 1,980 pounds. They live up to fifty years old. It spends its days resting and feeding. Rising to the surface every two to three minutes only interrupts it. Its average swimming speed is six mph. They tend to live alone, except when they congregate for protection and mating. The Dugong is a vegetarian, mainly eating sea grasses. If there are no sea grasses, it may feed on seaweed. The Dugong has a low rate of reproduction. Females breed once every 3 – 7 years. A female Dugong produces about nine offspring in her lifetime.
