Character Study: The Cask of Amontillado
This story deals with a man that just can’t take put downs in a comical way, but instead dramatizes this criticism to death. This is something that almost all of us can relate to; either being on the end of being picked on until you feel like just exploding, or on the end of presenting the criticism to your friend without the realization of disturbing your friend. This is apparently what has happened to Montresor and Fortunato. Fortunato has apparently said something so cruel to Montresor, which the narrator never elaborates on to tell us, that he has plotted revenge.
There is a couple things we need to know about Montresor. First off he is smart and he is not going to let anyone know of his plans of revenge, and secondly he is crazy. Montresor is the narrator so Poe lets dive into the psyche of a murderer. He shows of his smarts and patience from the beginning by his friendly actions towards Fortunato. He shakes his hand a...
