From Puppies to Grand Night Champions

In the sport of competition coon hunting there are many different qualities that a dog must have to compete at this level and it all begins when they are puppies. It is at this stage in there life where they form all of the habits both good and bad. Although training is a large part of the dog’s success, another factor is how they are bread. In order to have great dogs you need to breed successful parents. Most breeders’ breed dogs that are grand night champions so they are sure that the puppies will have a great chance from the start of becoming a champion coonhound.
After a puppy is born it is not until he is eight to ten months old before he will see the woods. When these dogs start to mature they are worked on cage coon and release coon. A cage coon is great for when they are younger because the coon is confined so that it will be unable to hurt the pup. This also gives the puppy a chance to see, smell, and chase ...
