humanity

There is much debate over the issue that whether progress have been made over the past century. Different people take different opinions about the problem due to their distinct backgrounds. In this statement, the speaker advocates that little progress have been made due to the overall condition of humanity is no better. However, as for me, I do not agree with the speaker. I assume we should take a positive attitude towards the problem after we acquire a better understanding of the definition of the phrase progress and human condition.
First of all, the phrase progress must be defined. If the term humanity mean that humankind are born in pain, suffer unexpected diseases during lifetime, and end up in death, then no progress have been made during the last one hundred years or one thousand years.
