The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
In 1884, Samuel L. Clemens under his pen name, Mark Twain wrote one of the most controversial novels in American literature. There has been increased discussion of the racist ideas spoken in the novel. In some cases, Schools have gone as far as to ban this book from their classrooms. Many parents are ambiguous to if they want their children to read this novel and they venture of them doing so. This novel should be in all public schools because it has not meant in a racist fashion. Critics have argued Mark Twain’s, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a racist novel do to the fact that excessively overuses the word nigger and depicts a black slave, Jim. When people read the novel they have to look to the deeper meaning of the story and “read between the lines.”
