How Sept. 11 Affected Me

The Effect September 11 Had on Me.

An experience that impacted my life in a deep and profound way is September 11. It was a day that will forever be remembered as a day of infamy. I’ll never forget that frightening day in 3rd period Latin class when a custodian entered the room and said that a plane crashed into the World Trade Center. What came to mind was a small Cessna airplane in a tragic accident. But it wasn’t.

Before September 11, I was always proud of my city; always proud to be a New Yorker. I was born and raised in Brooklyn and an avid Manhattan-goer. I can see why people aspire to move here. I want to be an actress, so living in the city is useful. I interned at an off-Broadway theatre my senior year of high school. And nothing beats Christmas in Herald Square. Christmas in the city is magical, especially the tree at Rockefeller Center. Growing up in the city helped me, I think, to mature. You have to be tough and resilient and a leader. That’s what I am.
