An ecological sensibility should be regarded as a prerequisite for any design of a landscape today. Olmsted didn’t just create the profession of ‘Landscape Architecture’, but he created a style of designing that was sensitive to the natural environment, sensitive to the needs of the community and sensitive to the eye. An ecological sensibility sounds like a simple and easy way of designing. It isn’t an overly complicated way of thinking and designing, but to put into practice these ideas and values, that will please all of the different groups is hard.
