The Andalusian comes from Southern Spain, near North Africa and is an ancient breed.
When the Muslim invaders arrived in 711- they may well have resembled the primitive Sorraian Pony still found today in Portugal.

Spanish horses provided the foundation stock for the majority of new breeds developed by the settlers. In Europe the Spanish horse preferred mount of monarchs and of the great riding masters, including Englishmen, William Cavendish, Duke of Newcastle, in the seventeenth century wrote that: “It well chosen it is the noblest horse in the world; the most beautiful that it can be.
He is of great spirit and of great courage. He proudest walk, proudest trot, loftiest gallop and is the lovingest, gentlest and fittest horse.
