Characters: Annie and Robert Maclean-Grace’s parents, Tom Booker-the Horse Whisperer, Pilgrim-Grace’s horse, Frank-Tom’s brother, Diane-Frank’s wife, Joe, Scott and Craig-Frank and Diane’s sons, Judith-Grace’s best friend that dies.

Plot of book: Grace and Judith go out riding one morning. There is an accident involving a semi-truck and Judith and her horse die. Grace loses a leg and Pilgrim is injured badly and goes a little crazy. The family is not dealing well with this so the mother reads up on anything she can about horses. She finds an article on Horse Whisperers and decides to see if he can cure the horse. He says no, but she brings Herself, Grace and Pilgrim to Montana for him to cure them anyway.

Third transmogrified character: Mrs. Dyer, the stable manager where pilgrim was kept, was combined with Liz Hammond the vet. Liz played both parts in the movie.
