Hope vs. lack of hope in Night

Often one reaches for hope when the rest of their beliefs seem to have failed them.
Hope allows one to have something to look forward to, something to reach for when the rest of the world seems to let us down. In Night, Elie Wiesel expresses hope vs. loss of hope during several different situations he faces. Elie comes to the belief for himself that there is no God, there mustn’t be. How could there be? He has seen so much death, so many loved ones taken from him, so much hate and sadness, and where was his God during all this? Elie goes from the belief that his God will carry him through this horror, to the simple hope that he will find the strength within himself to survive, the simple hope that this human brutality will soon end, the simple hope that he will be rescued, the simple hope that he will simply live to tell this terrible story.
