Homosexual marriage

ARTICLE 1:

August 19, 2003 / It’s uncomfortable, but it’s true: If we don’t face homosexual marriage now, homosexual marriage will be in our faces for years to come.

For the next two weeks, the Register will bring you commentary and opinion pieces explaining why homosexual marriage is wrong. The strong impulse for many will be not to read them. When the Register surveyed its readers two years ago, many identified homosexuality as something they want to see discussed far less in the paper.

They have a point.

Few of us want to think about homosexual marriage and homosexual practices. But the only way to live in a world where you won’t be constantly presented with homosexual marriage is to defeat homosexual marriage now.

So before our commentators go into detail telling you why homosexual marriage is wrong, we need to take some time to answer a very different question: Why should we bother with homosexual marriage at all? Why should we care if homosexuals marry ...
