#2 Children Learning About Their Sexuality (assigned 3-4-03)

1. In sentence form describe the best way to teach children about their sexuality. In your answer include the following:

a. Who teaches the child?
I believe it is best if children learn about sexuality through their parents, or immediate guardian.

b. Where do they learn?
Children should be exposed to sexuality inside the classrooms, once they have had a discussion with their parents.

c. When in their life should they be taught?
I feel that children should be taught about sexuality gradually starting by the age of 7, and into their adolescence. Children should be taught the biological or “natural” process of sexuality first, and as they mature, the social and cultural aspects should be introduced last. This would enable the child to formulate an objective and accurate understanding of sexuality, as opposed to media influences, which is most likely to permeate erroneous and distorted notion...
