1) Source a is written by the British commander in chief so it does not in fact show the true feeling of the British towards Operation Overlord, only its creators and instigators. His speech is meant to increase the morale of the British and show they are doing the right thing. The speech is full of clichés such as ‘striking a blow for freedom’ and ‘a great and righteous cause’. These statements are supposed to further the British attitude that is a ‘fight between good and evil’. Montgomery exhumes confidence, every time being optimistic never pessimistic. In doing this he is hoping that his confidence will rub off on the British troops so that they will believe that they can win their battle.

2) Source B is written by a British Soldier so this will be unbiased, but it could be biased, as he is inclined to his side. But it will give us a good idea of the tactics used by the British as a British soldier wrote it. We can learn from this so...
