History of the flute.

The flute is considered a woodwind instrument. You play the flute by blowing across a whole that is one the mouth piece while you close certain wholes on the body of the flute to play the note that you want. The name flute comes from a Latin word “flutus” which means breath. Depending on the tone that you want you can choose either a wooden or metal flute. Found in Africa the most common wood to make flutes out of is Grenadilla. This wood is very heavy and hard. Most flutes in the United States are made of metal although some people do play wooden flutes it is less common. The most common metals to make flutes with are silver, gold, or a blend of copper, zinc, and nickel known as nickel silver. The flute that most people are used to seeing is the transversal flute; this flute is played while being held parallel to the ground.
