History of cardano During the latter half of the fifteenth century was a time when the Europeans had great intellectual discoveries. However, this time might not have been so amazing had Johannes Gutenberg not invented the printing press in 1450. With the printing press now available, many books were published and Universities like Bologna, Paris, and Oxford became places for great education. These were not only times for mathematical improvement but also artistic careers blossomed. Summa de Arithmetica was produced by Luca Pacioli. He stressed the solving of linear and quadratic equations. This book was great because it was one of the first steps toward the type of arithmetic that we use today. Pacioli was great with arithmetic but when he came across trying to solve the cubic he could not do it and said it was impossible. Later, in the late 1400’s, a man by the name of Scipione del Ferro took the challenge of proving Pacioli wrong. ... Posted by: Tricia F.
