The Roman Empire fell after invasion from foreign tribes, particularly the Germanic tribes. Under the rule of Constantine, the people of the Roman Empire adopted Christianity as their official religion. With this came a new era of literate people, mostly the monks. Three monks that were greatly admired were Jerome, Ambrose and Augustine. After the Roman Empire fell, Theodoric the Ostrogoth took over the ruling reigns.
