COMPOSITION OF THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL – 1924 TO 1958
The first Legislative Council, which held its first meetings on 23rd May 1924, in Livingstone, the then capital of Northern Rhodesia, comprised the following:
the President who was the Governor of the territory;
nine official members who represented the Government and these were:-
the Chief Secretary;
the Attorney-General
the Financial Secretary;
the Secretary for Native Affairs;
the Administrative Secretary;
the Economic Secretary, and three more official members nominated by the Government, namely:
the Director of Development;
the Director of Medical Services; and
the Director of Agriculture; and
five (5) nominated members.
