Hiroshima

The dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima in 1945 was justified. The Japanese were very cruel to prisoners of war and many people thought they needed to be taught a lesson. The USA also felt that the Japanese would never truly surrender and any thing saying they would surrender was a lie. By dropping the bomb the Americans hoped to end the war and save thousands of US lives. They also wanted to prove superiority over the USSR.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave the initial call for the use of the atomic bomb in 1939 when he initiated the Manhattan project to counter the German nuclear race. "To see that the Nazis don't blow us up."(F. D. Roosevelt in Hiroshima & Nagasaki: one necessary evil, one tragic mistake. 1995 p.1). This is a very selfish and callous justification for the use of an atomic bomb. The US dropped the bomb with an ultimate intent to end the war.
