Then, as what had just happened sank in, I grinned widely and walked up onto the stage. I stood in front of the microphone and cleared my throat.
“Thank you for voting me as your prom queen. I can’t even begin to express in words how much of an honor it is to be chosen for the fourth year in a row. I just want to apologize to those who missed out on this opportunity because of me. I’m really sorry. Thank you.” As the last words left my mouth, my emotions caught up to me and I began to cry. I walked off the stage and into the arms of my boyfriend, Darrin Gutierrez, where I began the last dance of the night. He looked into my eyes and uttered those three small words…
