Heterosexual privilege and what it means to "take responsibility for being heterosexual (WOMN studies)

According to Gayle Rubin, sexuality in the western society has been generally known to be composed of two mutually exclusive categories. These categories were either heterosexuality or homosexuality. People have always been known to fall within either of the categories. The third presentation of sexuality that is bisexuality (attraction to both sexes) has always been thought of as an artificial category, because the general consensus that heterosexuality and homosexuality are mutually exclusive opposites. Bisexuals are considered either as lesbians/gays or confused straight people. Many people think that you should be one or the other, because of the difficulty of imagining an individual who is attracted to both sexes.
