Herbert Hoover

In a political and economic roller coaster Herbert Hoover, in his short-lived political life, saw the best of times and the worst of times. It is unfortunate that he gets the blame for the latter, something that he arguably could not control once he stepped foot in the White House. Despite his endless methods to cure the plagued economy, the timing of events would have arguably been too much for any president of the time. Herbert Hoover’s days in politics began to peak during the Calvin Coolidge administration where he served as Secretary of Commerce. Coolidge said of Hoover, “That man has offered me unsolicited advice for six years, all of it bad.” This remark was of course extreme; in fact, the opposite was true. Because of his contributions and his endearing relationship with the press during the Coolidge Administration, Hoover began his term with a good reputation and was well respected by the media.
