The International Theme Speakes a Language of Difference Between Europe and America






















The “international theme” is central in Henry James’s fiction for most of his plots show a web-like world which captures the intruder and gradually destroys him. The conflict builds on the relationships between the stranger and the medium. This is generally the case of the innocent American facing the corrupt Europe. Thus, the contest is between two different cultures, two separate worlds: American and European, the New World and the Old World, each acting according to its own code of manners.
