Henry Hudson


Early Life- Henry Hudson was born in London, England in the early 1570’s. He died when his crew mutinied on his 4th voyage in June1611. By the time he was 30 he was an excellent navigator. His grandpa and the explorer John Davis influenced Hudson’s decision to become an explorer. Henry sailed and explored for England for two years, then worked for the Dutch for one year, then worked for England for one more year. The reason he went to work for the Dutch is, when he got fired he missed life at sea so much he decided to work for a different country.

Explorations- Henry went on four major voyages.
Voyage *1- The first voyage he went on was in 1607. A company named “Muscovy Company” hired him. He went on this voyage to find a shortcut to the East (India, China, and Japan) because they wanted a shorter route for trading for spices from the Orient. This was also called the Orient.
