Katharine Drexel is a great role model for young women. Throughout her life she donated both time and money to help the minority races even though she was looked down upon for helping them. She has made many great achievements and has started many schools and homes to help minority races.
Katharine was born on November 26, 1858 to Francis Anthony Drexel and Hannah Jane. Her mother died two years after Katherine was born, but her father soon married Emma Bouvier. Katharine’s stepmother was a Catholic and Katharine looked up to her in the highest respect. When Katharine was a young woman she helped conduct a Sunday school and spent two days a week after school helping the poor with her stepmother. The second Mrs. Drexel, Emma Bouvier, died in 1883, and Francis followed her in 1885. He left an estate of $15 million to Katharine and her two sisters, Elizabeth and Louise.
