Hellenistic Philosophy Essay
Hellenistic philosophy has evolved over the years but a few modern day people and songs reflect the age-old theories of easily overlooked intellectuals. Jackson Browne and his song “These Days” reflect two major Hellenistic philosophies, stoicism and Epicureanism respectively. Browne leads a stoic lifestyle seen in his political activism and his personal response to difficult situations; he never just went with the flow. His famous song, “These Days,” demonstrates the Epicurist theory; the narrator is seeking to avoid pain in his life to improve his happiness.
