Heart of Darkness

By the end of the first chapter of Conrad´s Heart of Darkness we have a clear view of Marlow´s genuine character. Without representing his middle-class (2207), he has an independent nature (2210) and he is bravely after adventure “to face the darkness” (2207). Moreover, he is an existential thinker where he sees in the “sea…the mistress of his existence” (2207) a chance to contemplate on life and introspect (2226). Being an ardent supporter of honesty (2224) and sharp minded to see in the foundations and reality of matters (2222), Marlow seeks ”the meaning of an episode” (2207). T...
