Have We Gone Too Far?

On a June night in 1998, three young white men from Jasper, Texas went out for a drive. After some drinking, they picked up James Byrd Jr., a local African American man, chained him to the back of their truck and dragged him for three miles. Byrd was alive for much of this ordeal. Eventually his head was shorn off and his body disintegrated. With examples like this as well as others continually flooding our news channels, newspapers, and every other source of media, we have to ask “where have we gone wrong?” With words like “equality” and “minority” rolling off every tongue from our President to the lonely poor man on the street, everyone is looking to solve the problems of our racial differences. When in reality, there is no problem with the fact that our country is full of diverse people, who love a variety of things. The problem that we face as a country is that we have gone too far.
