In the past twenty years many states have passed new hate crime laws. Hate crimes are crimes committed against certain groups because of the criminal’s hate of that group. Groups such as Jews and homosexuals are the ones being targeted the most. A way that we can stop the large amount of hate crimes from happening is making hate crime a federal law. There should be a federal hate crime law because it can protect highly targeted groups, it can prevent people from committing crimes, and it can be worse than normal crimes.
Groups that are highly targeted should be protected. They have to be scared that just because they are from different groups, they will be harmed in some way. Many Americans are not being treated equally because of their race or beliefs. Groups should be able to have meetings and events without someone trying to destroy them.
