Harsh Physical Demands on Ballet Dancers

Several sports today involve time, practice and above all, hard work. An athlete can not be good at what he or she does without practising for long periods of time on a regular basis. There is not a single sport that does not require practice or hard work to become more talented. However, can the same be said for ballet? Ballet is described as a theatrical art form using dancing, music, and scenery to convey a story, theme, or atmosphere, (Merriam-Webster Dictionary Online). It sounds very delicate and relaxing once the definition is read but there is a lot more to it than just dancing to music. Ballet requires much more than practice and hard work; it requires physical and mental discipline. In any sport you have to stay fit and eat right but ballet goes beyond those limits. The physical demands made of ballet dancers are more than or equal to that of other athletes.
