Happiness
What is happiness? Many people ask themselves this question every day, and many people have very different views on what happiness is to them. All humans want to be happy, and they try very hard to make it possible. There are seven main philosophies on how to achieve happiness that I will be covering in this essay, in an attempt to resolve what happiness is to me.
The first view on happiness is Classical Hedonism. Through this view happiness is found through pleasure and completely eliminating pain. There are two kinds of hedonism, which are psychological hedonism and ethical hedonism. Psychological hedonism is the view that humans are developed psychologically so that we want ultimate pleasure. Ethical hedonism is the view that our moral development teaches us to maximize happiness. Epicurus says ethical hedonism is based upon his psychological hedonism. He also says that the highest pleasure of all is when we no longer have anything we want in life.
