Handwashing

I. Introduction
· Hello, my name is Mrs. Smith and I am a going to talk to you today about germs, how germs make us sick, and how to stop germs from making us sick.
· I have some helpers with me today. They are Mrs. Beth, Mrs. Jennifer, and Ms. Sue.
II. Why wash out hands?
· Have you ever seen germs?
i. (No)
· Germs are so small they are INVISIBLE.
· Can anyone tell me what “invisible” means?
i. It means you can’t see something
ii. Germs are so small that you can’t see them unless you have a microscope
· Germs can make you sick, cough, throw up, and get a fever.
· Germs can be found everywhere. They are on doorknobs, sinks, toilets, and our hands.
· I brought some pretend germs with me today. Let me see if I can find them…
i. Sneeze into hand and spread flour on them. Uhh Ohh…looks like I’ve got some germs on my hands.
ii. Touch a child with dark clothing on…Uhh Ohh. Loo...
