Fidel Castro was born in Mayari Municipality, this was the Oriente province when he was born. His father’s name was Angel Castro Argiz, an immigrant from Spain. He was a fairly prosperous sugarcane farmer in a place that was long overrun by a large American company called the “United Fruit Company.” Angel Castro and his first wife had two children and he had five more with his cook, Lina Ruz Gonzalez. Fidel was one of the five children she and his father had, and Raúl, Fidel’s brother who later became his Chief associate in Cuban Affaires.
