The Dream keepers: Successful Teachers Of
African American Children

In the book Dreamkeepers a lot of issues and aspects of teaching and teaching experiences were presented and a few relate to me personally in my goals as a future teacher and as a student in the process of training and development to became a successful teacher. Throughout this book various quotes and situations were given that really opened my eyes to the realities of being a teacher and learning to teach children of color, which includes myself.
One such quote and chapter that stood out to me more than the rest was chapter four with the quote, “We was all dreamin’ the same dream…” –Calvin, sixth grader (54). This quote caught my attention because first the use of black vernacular and the fact that it came from an actual student.
