Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner

When John Prentiss says to his father “I owe you nothing because you brought me into this world…. Not until your whole generation has laid down and died will the dead weight of you be off our backs…. You think of yourself as a colored man; I think of myself as a man.” It was a very powerful speech not only because of the way he said it to his father but the words and phrases he used. Almost each and every phrase had its own separate meaning and these were very controversial phrases to use in a 1968 film. “I owe you nothing because u brought me into this world…. You think of yourself as a colored man; I think of myself as a man” are the statements that I am concentrating on.

If your parents give you life they are obliged to raise you up but they don’t have to give up their life just to give all that they can afford. I agree when John said that he did...
