Guatemala

The country I chose to do my report on is Guatemala. Guatemala was freed of Spanish colonial rule in 1821. Around 1960, Guatemala experienced a 36-year guerrilla war. In 1996, the government signed a peace agreement that finally ended the conflict, which had led to the death of more than 100,000 people and had created some 1 million refugees. I will be hitting points on Guatemala’s geography, their economy, and their government.
Guatemala is located in Middle America. It borders the Caribbean Sea, Honduras, Belize, the North Pacific Ocean, El Salvador and Mexico. It occupies 108,890 square km. Only 460 square km is water. Guatemala has a tropical climate. Guatemala’s land is mostly mountains with narrow coastal plains. The highest point in Guatemala is Volcan Tajumulco, a volcano, at 4,211 meters.
