Group behaviour & The Internet

Introduction
The Internet is a vast source of information. It is like having the world’s largest library at your fingertips. People can get almost any information they want from the Internet, from recipes for grandma’s fruitcake to how to make a cruise missile. There are sites for almost anything, from pornography, greeting cards, and chat rooms. Somebody with very few lessons and a home computer can “surf” the net and find anything that interests them. One of the biggest uses of the net is for communication between similar groups of people interested in similar things; this is where the chat rooms fit into the Internet. When people start chatting it can become very addictive, then people become friends and want to meet.
The difference between meeting people who are strangers on the net in chat room’s and in person can be vast.
In a face-to-face meeting it is hard to hide your age or sex. These meetings usually take place in a safe work...
