With the explicit written consent of the lecturer a student can research a technology/
policy or issue that is NOT on this list. Students must advise there tutors as to which topic
they wish to research by week the end of Week 5.
Students are to write a research paper (2500 – 3000 words) discussing the following key aspects of the selected technology, issue or policy:

• Historical evolution and context.

• Rationale behind the development of this technology/policy.

• Technical implementation.

• Limitations & Scope.

• How it has influenced world wide networking.

• Costs/benefits of the technology, sociologically and technically i.e. how it
has influenced society.

• Future directions and initiatives.

• Case studies of its application ...
