I. Among Plato’s students in the Academy was Aristotle. Aristotle vigorously embarked upon the task of investigating every kind of knowledge and collecting as many facts as possible. Happiness, He concluded was the Greek ideal of style in the arts, balance order and restraint- also represented the ideal in terms of human behavior. He concluded that the best type of government contained a middle class- people neither wealthy nor poor. Aristotle believed that although pure Monarchy, aristocracy and democracy were equally good forms of government, each could easily be corrupted. The best government should include aspects of each form of government or powerful leader, aristocratic advisers and a democratic assembly.
