Great Wall Of China

To northwest and north of Beijing, a huge, ragged wall zigzags its way to the east and west along the huge mountains. This is called The Great Wall Of China. The main part of the wall was finished in thirty years. That part is 3460 km long. The wall has been added onto after the main part was finished and now it is 7240km long. It is over 2,000 years old and is one of the seven modern wonders of the world. The Great Wall is able to be seen from the moon.
Although no one knows the specific reason why the The Great Wall Of China was built but it is safe to say that it originated as a military fortification against invading tribes on the borders during the earlier Zhou Dynasty.
