goodbye earl

The Dixie Chicks sing a song about domestic violence. In their song, “Goodbye Earl,” Wanda and Maryanne, two best friends from high school, are reunited when Wanda is severely beaten by her husband Earl. The two women then plot revenge: "they worked out a plan, and it didn't take them long to decide, That Earl had to die." From the lyrics, we assume that they fed him a poisoned dinner, "Those black eyed peas, they tasted alright to me, Earl, You feelin' weak? Why don't you lay down and sleep, Earl, Ain't it dark, wrapped up in that tarp, Earl?" Later, they probably disposed of his body in the lake: "Let's go out to the lake Earl, We'll pack a lunch, and stuff you in the trunk, Earl." The two women live happily ever after because no one seems to notice...
