Golden Rod

Goldenrod is a perennial often found along roadsides and in open fields of New Jersey and almost all North America. Most famously, goldenrod is Alabama’s and Nebraska’s state flower, it also appears on Kentucky’s state flag. There are over eighty species which grow in Central Asia and Europe, including Britain. These wildflowers have a single woody stem that grows to heights of 2 to 3 feet tall with alternate leaves of a clear green color. Its yellow flowers, which generally appear in August and September, are only about ¼-inch wide but come in profuse clusters (Miller, 13). I am very familiar with this plant, since I was small I remember seeing it growing almost everywhere and wondering what it actually is. I have found out that although it grows everywhere and I see it almost everyday, this plant has many medical uses.
