Gold is a soft bright yellow transition metal. It is the most malleable and ductile of all the metals and can be pounded into thin sheets called gold leaf. The leaf may be pounded so thin that it transmits light. Very low resistance and thermal conductivity makes gold a valuable metal in high-technology industries.
