Girl

The “Girl” is a story about basic life instructions being given to a young woman. I agree with the way Kincaid wrote the story and with the instructions that she used in the story.

In the beginning of the story, Kincaid gives the young woman several instructions about maintenance of clothing. She talks about washing and properly ironing clothes. Kincaid states “Wash the white clothes on Monday and put them on the stone heap; wash the color clothes on Tuesday and put them on the clothesline to dry.” I agree with these instructions because every young person needs to know how to properly wash and iron clothes.

Then Kincaid speaks to the young woman on how to cook and proper eating manners. There are several meals that are mentioned with instructions on how to prepare them such as; pumpkin fritters, fish, bread pudding, doukona and pepper pot. The eating skills that she d...
