Gene Therapy

Gene Therapy
Definition - Gene therapy is a novel approach to treat, cure, or ultimately prevent disease by changing a person's genes. Gene therapy is very new, and current gene therapy is mainly experimental.

Advantages – More Nutritious Produce
Reduce the likelihood of heritable mutations/diseases
Reasons - Understanding plant and animal genomes will allow us to create stronger, more disease-resistant plants and animals which will reduce the cost of agriculture and provide consumers with more nutritious and pesticide-free foods.
Understanding human genomes will enable us to prevent many inheritable diseases.
Disadvantages – People can access your genetic information easily
There are many things we still do not know
Reasons – Many people will have access to your genetic information
There are many uncertainties involved with tests for complex conditions linked to multiple genes and gene-environment interactions.
