This story takes place in the “ not so distant future”, in a world where people have the choice of conceiving a child or having a child designed through genetic engineering. A boy (Vincent) of normal conception is born into this society where your occupation and class are based on your genetic make up. When Vincent was two years of age his parents had decided to have another child (Anton), this time through genetic engineering.
Through their childhood years they were always competing and Anton was clearly the stronger of the two. Although Vincent is naturally born he doesn’t accept his role in society and always wants to be more then what he is and never gives up. Vincent always had dreams of becoming an Astronaut and knew it would be a battle because of his role in their society.
