Gambling on Guam

Gambling activities are already prevalent in our island community. At the liberation day carnival and at some village fiestas for instance, we even have casinos openly advertised and operating. These sustained gambling activities by our neighbors, friends and family clearly indicate broad support for this type of recreation. If the public strongly disapproved they would not participate, and gambling operators would simply go out of business. Our economy is collapsing around us. We all know the details of this fact - we live it everyday; as we struggle to financially survive the downturn. We have seen and are seeing many of our young and talented leave the island. We must find ways to arrest and reverse this decline. In the mainland, many small communities such as ours finding themselves in a similar economic fix, have successfully turned to gambling to reverse pervasive and sustained economic decline. For ...
