Gabriel's Self Awarness- "The Dead"

In the story Pinnochio, a living wooden puppet uses his developement of self-awarness to become a “real boy.” Pinnachio had a problem with lying. Every time he lies, Pinnochio’s nose begins to grow. His nose extends so far that eventually he has a bird’s nest on it. Pinnochio soon realizes by telling lies, he is going to get nothing that he wants. Pinnochio showed self-awarness by stop telling lies. When Pinnochio stopped telling lies, he gets what he wants the most, to become a “real boy.” “The Dead” by James Joyce, progresses by means of clearly defined scenes or episodes which mark the stages in Gabriel’s developing self-awarness. One particular, pivotal, and important scene is with Molly Ivors. Molly Ivors is another person like Gabriel who had the opportunity to go to the University but is also a Irish patriot.
