Fundamentals of Dielectric Resonator Filters

2.1 Introduction

To the average individual, the concept of a primarily passive, almost non-electronic, device as a filter is abstract if not far-fetched. This section provides a simple explanation of the process and discusses some of the concepts and procedures specific to the purpose of this project. To obtain a sound understanding of the principles involved a wide range of pertinent literature was reviewed.

2.2 Dielectric resonator filters
There are a number of different microwave filter technologies. These include transmission line, waveguide, hollow cavity resonator, and dielectric resonator filters. The dielectric resonator filter, as the name implies, has dielectric resonators (ceramics) as its basic element. Many dielectric resonators are used to produce a filter.
